Road reconstruction works are underway in Hotham Street, Hughesdale.

The stretch of road, between Kangaroo Road and Dallas Avenue, needed urgent renewal because of deteriorating pavement conditions, drainage issues and vehicle scraping concerns.

The much-needed works will include reconstruction of the failed sections of road pavement; replacement of kerb and channel with the reuse of existing bluestone; and an upgrading of the stormwater drainage system to reduce the flooding of residential properties.

Vehicle crossings will also be reconstructed to reduce scraping of vehicle undercarriages while road humps will be installed to reduce traffic speed.

The works will improve road safety and reduce ongoing maintenance costs while responding directly to residents’ concerns and contributing to a safer, more sustainable road network.

The road reconstruction is expected to be completed in August 2026 and supports Council’s goal of creating a more connected and resilient city.

During working hours, there will be partial road closures affecting local traffic, however, access to all properties will be maintained. Traffic controllers will be onsite during the partial closures to manage vehicle flow.

The bus stop will be temporarily relocated during reinstatement works.

A traffic management plan will be in place throughout construction to minimise disruption.
