We are updating our commercial waste service to match our residential system to improve our efficiency, better support small businesses using our services, and divert more waste from landfill.
From 1 July 2026, our commercial waste service will include:
A 240 litre bin is the same size as the yellow-lid recycling bin that most councils provide to residential properties.
Weekly and twice-weekly collections will no longer be offered.
If your business only uses a landfill bin, a recycling bin will be added.
You can request a maximum of one additional landfill bin ($874.50) and one additional recycling bin ($73.10) for an annual fee.
No change will be made until July 2026, so there is time to find a private waste service if Council's services no longer suit your requirements.
Does this change affect your business?
Does your business currently receive Council's waste services?
Yes: keep reading below.
No: you do not need to take any action.
If your bins are currently collected once a week
A fortnightly service may still work for you, depending on how much waste your business has.
If your bins are currently collected 2 times a week
The frequency of our service is unlikely to meet your needs, and you will need to move to a private waste provider.
Paying for collections
From 1 July 2026, Council is introducing a separate waste charge.
Your Council rates will go down, and the separate waste charge will be added for commercial properties that use Council’s waste services.
The charge for 2026–27 is expected to be $425 and includes both a 240 litre landfill and recycling bin that will be collected fortnightly. The current annual fee for additional bins is $874.50 for a landfill bin and $73.10 for a recycling bin per year. 2026–27 annual fees will be confirmed by Council in May and are expected to be similar amounts.
If your property does not use Council’s waste service, the waste charge will be removed from the rates notice.
Use our calculator to estimate how these changes affect your 2026–27 rates.

Choosing a private waste service
If you decide to move to a private waste service, consider:
- Reliable and frequent collection schedules
- Transparent pricing and clear contracts
- Whether your business has space to store bins to ensure they are not tampered with, do not obstruct access, and do not create issues for neighbouring properties
- Recycling options
- Flexibility to meet your waste volumes
- Support with waste reduction or sustainability initiatives
You may also find it helpful to compare quotes or speak with nearby businesses about their provider, or follow our advice about reducing waste in your business or workplace.
Once you have confirmed a private waste service, let Council know so we can take you off our collection, arrange to pick up your bins as close as possible to your new service starting, and make sure you are no longer charged for Council's commercial waste services on your 2026–27 rates notice.
