From August 2025, Council’s pound facility for cats, dogs and livestock will move from the RSPCA in Burwood to Animal Aid in Coldstream.

From 4 August 2025, if your animal is found wandering, is picked up by Council officers and can’t be reunited using registration or microchip information, it will be taken to Animal Aid and cared for until you are able to collect them. Please note you must pick up your animal within 8 days.

Council’s preference is always to reunite pets directly with their owners as quickly as possible, and the easiest way to help us do this is to register your dog or cat and make sure your details are up to date.

Council had to find a new pound location as the RSPCA will no longer provide pound facilities to Victorian councils.

Following the public tender process, Animal Aid was awarded the contract.

Animal Aid, located at 35 Killara Road, Coldstream, offers a purpose-built, professional shelter, complete with a cattery, dog kennels, veterinary clinic, pet boarding, grooming services and dog training. With more than 50 years of experience in animal welfare, Animal Aid brings a wealth of knowledge and care to its work with both animals and the community.

We thank the RSPCA for more than 20 years of service to Monash Council and our pet owners.

Animal owners will receive more information on the move in the lead-up to 1 August.
