Ian got back into photography just before he retired and found his passion - he enjoys getting out in cold mornings to go shooting with like-minded individuals.
Ian joined the Waverley Camera Club in 2021, where through the activities and encouragement of other members, said he 'learned so much' before going on to become president of the club from 2023 – 2025. He is currently vice president.
Ian has entered many local and international competitions, with his best results being a finalist in the “Look” exhibition run by the Museum of Australian Photography for 2024, 2025, and in an international competition won best in show for a sports image.
Ian started the APJA training in 2023 primarily to understand what the judges are looking for and thus to produce better images, not to be a judge. Ian continued the training in 2024 and 2025. With the training and encouragement from his mentor, Ian gave judging a try, with his first competition in December 2024.
Ian shoots with a Nikon Z7II.
