Tree renewal makes Oakleigh's Warrigal Road safer

We’re about to remove 11 Plane trees from 735-805 Warrigal Road in Oakleigh before replacing them with a species more suitable for the location.

The trees identified for removal have poor form after a long history of pruning for overhead powerlines and we can no longer manage these trees safely.

We’ll be replacing them with Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Sioux' - a mildew-resistant deciduous tree that features masses of musk-pink summer flowers, striking mottled bark and brilliant red-orange autumn foliage. Reaching a height of about 4m-6m, it is ideal for streetscapes like Warrigal Road.

 When we’ll be doing it

• Tree removal is scheduled for 29 June and should be completed in one day.
• Planting of the replacement species will occur prior to 30 October 2026.

 What might impact you

• We’ll have traffic management in place to assist with traffic flow and to safely guide pedestrians and traffic around the work areas.
• The outside lane of Warrigal Road might be closed during this time and some traffic delays are anticipated.
• Residential driveways will be unaffected, apart from when work on trees is carried out at a driveway entrance.
• Noise and dust will be monitored during the removal work to ensure they do not become excessive.
