Work to start on Glen Waverley’s new library and community spaces

We’re rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on the construction of the new Glen Waverley Civic Precinct, delivering new community spaces in the heart of Glen Waverley. 

The project is a $110m investment in Glen Waverley’s future, creating a contemporary civic hub designed to support a growing and changing community. 

Builder Kane Constructions has been appointed following a competitive tender process, with site works set to begin in August 2026 and construction expected to be completed in July 2028.

A new community hub for Glen Waverley

The project will include:

  • A brand-new, modern library with flexible spaces for study, learning and creativity
  • Community event, meeting and gathering spaces
  • New outdoor spaces for relaxation and everyday community use
  • Car parking to support visitors to the precinct.

This investment comes at a time of significant growth and change in Glen Waverley and will strengthen the area’s civic and cultural heart - providing high-quality facilities designed to meet the needs of current and future residents.

Supporting a growing community

Glen Waverley is continuing to grow, with new housing and major infrastructure projects, such as the Suburban Rail Loop, expected to bring more people into the area over the coming years. Modern, flexible community infrastructure is essential to support that growth.

Construction underway soon

Early works in the precinct area have already begun, with construction activity to increase as the project moves into its main build phase.

We understand construction can be disruptive and we’ll work with nearby residents and businesses to minimise disruption. Measures are in place to maintain access to surrounding facilities, and we’ll keep the community informed throughout construction.

While construction is underway, we’ve set up nearby temporary library sites so that people can continue to access these crucial community services. For information about what is available at these sites, and our other library locations, visit our libraries website.

During construction, there’ll still be plenty of carparking available for Civic Centre visitors at the nearby multi-deck Bogong Car Park.

This is expected to be a two-year construction, with the new spaces to be open in July 2028.

Monash Mayor Cr Stuart James said the project would deliver long-lasting benefits for the community.

“Glen Waverley will grow in the coming years as the Victorian Government’s Suburban Rail Loop project creates additional housing options for people,” he said.

“Our Glen Waverley library was already bursting at the seams with community use, and this project will support future growth by delivering a new modern library and flexible event and meeting spaces that can adapt for community needs.

“This will deliver spaces that will bring people together and support learning, connection and community life for years to come.”
