Kindergarten Enrolments

We manage enrolment applications for most kindergartens in the City of Monash.

We do not manage applications for kindergartens in long day care or independent schools. Please contact these directly for details on how to enrol.

Before you start: Use the calculator below to find out what year your child can start 3-year-old or 4-year-old kindergarten.

What year is my child eligible for kindergarten?

To be eligible to attend kindergarten your child/children must turn 3 or 4 by the 30 April in the year they attend.

Registration must be received and processed by 30 June, the year before your child attends.

Use the calculator below to find out what year your child can start 3-year-old (3YO) or 4-year-old (4YO) kindergarten:

What happens next

What happens after your application

You will receive an email confirming your submission. This does not guarantee a place at a kinder.

If you do not receive the email, please check your spam or junk folder. An application is not complete until you receive a confirmation email.

If a place is available, Council will send you an offer via email and SMS. You will need to respond by the stated deadline or the offer is withdrawn.

If a place is not available, you will be added to the waitlist. You will receive an email if an offer becomes available.

What happens after your expression of interest

Confirm form submission: You will receive an email confirming your expression of interest. This does not guarantee a place at a kinder.

If you do not receive the email, please check your spam or junk folder. An expression of interest is not complete until you receive a confirmation email.

Apply for specific kindergarten programs: At the start of June in the year before your child starts kindergarten, Council will send you an email to apply, submit your documents and pick your program preferences. You will need to submit these by 30 June. Submissions received after this deadline are processed after third-round offers.

Respond to an offer: From mid-July to August, Council will send out first, second and third round offers via email. You will need to respond by the stated deadline or the offer is withdrawn.

Enrolment: Your kindergarten will contact you before the end of the year to finalise enrolment information specific to their centre and to discuss starting date/time and what to expect. Please note that your centre will ask for your child’s immunisation records. Read about obtaining immunisation records.

Kindergarten timetables

We publish timetables of each kinder's session days and times for you to check if your preferred kinder's programs suit your family's schedule and needs.

Please do not apply for a kinder if you cannot attend its sessions for that year.

Timetables are made available in June for the following year. They are also included in the application form.

Kindergarten 2025 timetables(PDF, 261KB)

All sessional kindergartens operate in line with the Victorian school term dates and holidays.

Enrolment Process Timeline

Step 1.Step 1: Expression of Interest (EOI)

When: Any time before first Monday of June, the year before your child starts kindergarten.

You can submit an EOI for up to 3 kindergartens any time before the first Monday of June, the year before your child starts kindergarten.

Early EOIs are not given priority and do not guarantee a place at a kinder, however they can help kindergartens plan timetables based on expected need.

Step 2.Step 2: Application, preferences and program timetables

When: First Monday of June – 30 June, the year before your child starts kindergarten.

If you’ve submitted an expression of interest (EOI), Council will email and SMS you at the start of June, in the year before your child starts kindergarten. You will be invited to apply for your kinder preferences before 30 June.

We will contact you using the nominated email and phone number from the EOI form, so please contact us if you need to update these details.

If you haven’t submitted an EOI, you can also apply from our website before 30 June.

To apply, list up to 3 kinder preferences, submit your documents, and check program times to make sure they suit your family’s schedule in the following year.

You can still apply after 1 July. However, these applications are processed after third-round offers, usually mid-August.

Step 3.Step 3: Allocation and offers

When: July – August, the year before your child starts kindergarten.

First-round offers are emailed (followed by an SMS reminder) to parents/guardians around mid-July, and you have 7 days to respond to the offer, or it is withdrawn. First-round offers are only sent to families who live in Monash, as well as families who meet the Priority of Access requirements.

Second and third-round offers are emailed in the following weeks with the same 7-day response time. These offers are also open to people who do not live in Monash.

Late applications are processed and sent an offer after third-round offers are finalised (usually mid-August).

Kindergartens are then notified of acceptances.

More information: Allocations and Offers

Please note:

If your child has not received an offer after each round, your child will remain on the waitlist for the next round.

If you decline an offer or your child remains on the waitlist, please contact us for groups with current availability.

Step 4.Step 4: Enrolling and starting kindergarten

The kindergarten will contact you to finalise enrolment information specific to their centre and to discuss starting date/time and what to expect.

Enrolments are managed by the kinders, not Council, and can occur some time after you accept your offer.

Please note that your centre will ask for your child’s immunisation records. Read about obtaining immunisation records.

FAQs

How do I update contact details or kinder preferences?

If you need to update your address, email address, phone number or kinder preferences, please contact kinderenrolments@monash.vic.gov.au or 9518 3555.

What is the difference between expression of interest, application, enrolment and registration?

Expression of interest: An expression of interest is submitted for a year that is not currently being allocated. You can submit an expression of interest any time up to June, the year before your child starts kindergarten. After this date, you will submit an application.

Application: An application is submitted for the year that is currently being allocated. When you apply, you will be asked to select up to 3 kindergarten preferences, upload verification documents and select your program preferences (check if your child can attend the program's session times). Applications are open from early June, the year before your child attends kindergarten. Applications must be submitted by 30 June to be eligible for first-round offers.

Enrolment: An enrolment is managed by the kindergarten, and is usually the last part of the process. It is not managed by Council, and can occur some time after you accept the offer. Please note that your centre will ask for your child's immunisation records. Read about obtaining immunisation records.

Registration: Registration was part of Council's previous kindergarten enrolment portal, which closed on Friday 19 September 2025. Under our new system, instead of 'registering', parents are asked to submit an expression of interest.
