KooyongKoot Alliance

Opportunities exist within the KKA and its projects and programs.

The KooyongKoot Alliance (KKA) connects more than 20 local Friends groups who care for the Gardiners Creek (KooyongKoot) catchment across Melbourne. KooyongKoot is the First Nations name for Gardiners Creek in the Woi Wurrung language, reflecting the long‑standing cultural connection between Country, water and community.

Our focus is the whole catchment, from headwaters to river confluence, not just the creek itself. Spanning more than 100 square kilometres, KooyongKoot is a major tributary of the Yarra River (Birrarung) and an important piece of green infrastructure in Melbourne’s east. It supports urban biodiversity, improves waterway health and provides valued open space that brings communities together.

Through shared knowledge, local action and strong partnerships, the Alliance works to raise awareness of the creek’s environmental, cultural and social value, and its importance to the liveability of surrounding neighbourhoods.
