Coleman Parade – reconstruction and shared path
- Project typeRoad reconstruction and shared path
- Project valueSubject to tender
- Project scheduleConstruction starts July 2025
- Contractor nameSubject to tender
- Completion Date30 June 2026
We'll be undertaking street improvement works from mid-2025 along Coleman Parade, between Blackburn Road and Myrtle Street, in Glen Waverley.
Pavement reconstruction works are required due to its condition, with these works ensuring that the road can cater for the anticipated construction traffic generated by the Victorian Government's Suburban Rail Loop project.
The road reconstruction project will include the upgrade and completion of a shared path along the Waverley Rail Trail, on the north side of Coleman Parade between the Syndal and Glen Waverley railway stations.
The works are expected to start in July 2025, subject to funding and approvals, and take up to 12 months to complete.
The project has been designed and approved by Council’s Engineering and Horticulture teams. We have tried to reduce the number of trees that need to be removed by adjusting the shared path where possible. We’ll need to remove 13 trees to build the shared path, as well as one diseased nature strip tree, but we’re proposing to plant new trees along Coleman Parade and the railway corridor where possible.

What we’ll be doing
- Reconstructing and repairing the road pavement, kerb and channel.
- Upgrading and completing the missing sections of the shared path along the railway line side of Coleman Parade.
- Repairing and increasing the capacity of the stormwater drainage system.
- Reconstructing existing vehicle crossings to properties.
- Replacing damaged footpath and pram ramps.
- Upgrading bus stops to meet accessibility standards.
Project benefits
- Road reconstruction and drainage works will improve the longevity and strength of the road along Coleman Parade.
- Completing the Waverley Rail Trail shared path between the Syndal and Glen Waverley railway stations directly supports the Council Plan 2021-2025 to prioritise sustainable transport options, including walking/cycling paths and public transport as a Sustainable City Strategy.
Possible impacts
- Road reconstruction works along Coleman Parade will take up to 12 months, with traffic diversions in place. Parking is likely to be prohibited as works progress through stages.
- Bus services will be rerouted for the duration of works.
- We’ll need to remove 13 trees to build the shared path, as well as one diseased nature strip tree, but we’re proposing to plant new trees along Coleman Parade and the railway corridor where possible.
- Property and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the construction period. However, some vehicle crossings - between Fiander Avenue and Myrtle Street - will be unavailable for approximately 5-7 days while works are taking place. We’ll advise residents and property owners when works will be taking place in front of their properties. Alternative arrangements will be made, such as parking on-street at a nearby location.
- We will work in stages to minimise impact on local residents.
