Closing soon: have your say on glass bin recycling
Published on 19 May 2026
Monash is one of over 30 Victorian councils calling on the Victorian Government to pause and reconsider the rollout of a fourth glass recycling bin, and instead expand the successful Victorian Container Deposit Scheme.
We're encouraging residents to complete a short, anonymous, 1-minute survey on whether you want a glass bin.
Your feedback will help us advocate to the Victorian Government to consider what works best for Monash communities.
The survey closes soon at 5pm, next Monday 25 May, so now is the time to have your say.

What you've already told us
Nearly 1 in 4 residents (23.7%) told us that you didn't want a separate glass bin when we consulted on the size of the glass bin in late 2025, citing lack of glass waste and concerns about the additional cost.
For Monash, the estimated cost of rolling out the glass kerbside bin service is $20–$24 million over 10 years (subject to change).
A further 5.1% said they'd prefer to use the Container Deposit Scheme instead.
A better alternative exists
Monash residents have embraced the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme, with more than 17 million cans and bottles returned at collection sites in Monash from July to December 2025.
Across Victoria, 3 billion recyclable items have been returned since 2023.
Expanding the scheme to include wine and spirit bottles could deliver the same recycling benefits as an additional bin.
