Meet the instructor

Emilie (she/her) is an artist and educator based between Melbourne and Marseille, France, whose practice spans multiple artistic disciplines with a strong focus on community-based art and education. 

She completed a PhD in Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2020 and has undertaken artist residencies with Testing Grounds, Making Space and the Comic Art Workshop.

Emilie has exhibited work across Melbourne, including at FortyFive Downstairs, Abbotsford Convent, No Vacancy Gallery, Arcade and George Paton Gallery. 

Her workshops are known for their welcoming, hands-on approach, making creative techniques accessible to artists and beginners alike. 

This workshop is suitable for ages 18+ and is delivered in partnership with Laneway Learning for creatives in Monash.

Explore the traditional Japanese art of Shibori in a hands-on workshop that combines decorative dyeing with the intricate stitching techniques of sashiko embroidery.

Often compared to tie dye, Shibori uses carefully planned folding, stitching and binding techniques to create beautiful patterns and textures in fabric. In this workshop, participants will design and stitch their own patterns before transforming them through the dyeing process.

Perfect for anyone interested in textiles, craft or learning a new creative skill, this affordable workshop offers a fun introduction to two traditional Japanese art forms while creating a unique piece to take home.

Led by experienced tutor Robyn, the session will guide participants through every step, from designing and preparing fabric to stitching and dyeing. All materials are provided, and no sewing experience is required.

Robyn is a reuse, repurpose and remake enthusiast who is the owner of the studio and business ‘Harold and Maude‘ on level 2 of the Nicholas Building, that focuses on recycling, repurposing and remaking.

Paint your own galaxy in watercolur!

Escape into a world of stars, colour and creativity at this relaxing watercolour workshop, where participants will create their own stunning galaxy-inspired artwork.

Designed for beginners and experienced artists alike, the class explores the unique fluidity of watercolours, teaching participants how to blend colours and tones to create dreamy, cloud-like galaxies. Once the background is complete, participants can personalise their artwork with stars, constellations and other celestial features.

The workshop offers a mindful and creative experience, making it the perfect opportunity to unwind while learning new artistic techniques.

By the end of the session, participants will take home a unique watercolour painting and the skills and confidence to continue creating their own cosmic masterpieces.

Participants will design, carve and print their own series of Christmas cards using linocut, a versatile technique that is perfect for creating personalised cards and handmade gifts. Simple, bold designs often produce the most striking results, making linocut an ideal introduction to printmaking.

The workshop will guide participants through each step of the process, with everyone taking home a collection of unique cards ready to share with family and friends.
