Bogong Reserve sediment pond after sediment removal

We’ve just completed removing accumulated sediment, litter and debris from the sediment pond in Bogong Reserve, Glen Waverley.

Not only have these works created a beautiful, green bushland setting just 500m from Kingsway, but they are crucial for the environmental health of the area.

Sediment ponds play an important role in treating stormwater run-off from our urban catchment – capturing sediment, litter and debris that washes off our streets and filtering that runoff before it enters our creeks and wetlands.

A recent assessment estimated that the Bogong Reserve pond was 70% full of sediment and it was vital that this was cleaned out.

After building an access track, using crushed rock, excavators dug out the sediment and it was stored in drying locations in the reserve. When dry, it was then transported for disposal.

The banks of the sediment pond were stabilised and follow-up planting will occur, where needed, during the winter months when it’s the right season for planting.
