2025 Sustainability Leadership Award

Adrian Lacey

During the COVID pandemic, Adrian began gardening in Whitehaven Crescent Reserve, transforming the space with beautifully maintained garden beds that enhanced the overall look and feel of the park.

Since then, he has remained dedicated to the reserve, organising mulch deliveries, coordinating community working bees and planting extensively throughout the area.

His ongoing efforts have significantly contributed to making the reserve a more welcoming and vibrant space for the local community. 

Yanbin Chong

Yanbin demonstrated sustainability leadership by transforming the Glen Waverley Happy Seniors Association into an environmentally engaged community group.  

Originally a Tai Chi and social group of 150 Chinese-speaking residents, it has become a strong advocate for local sustainability. Some 35-40 members of the group have collaborated with Monash Council’s sustainability team to help improve the Chinese-language Gardens for Wildlife booklet.  

Group members have also participated in recycling and sustainability education sessions and now manage and remove weeds from their local bushland reserve.
