To show our commitment to diversity and inclusion, Monash Council marks LGBTIQA+ awareness days throughout the year by flying the pride flag at prominent locations around Monash and lighting up prominent buildings in the appropriate colours.

Our LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee has helped to inform which days are selected and the actions we take.

Midsumma

Late January to early February

Council celebrates Midsumma to promote LGBTIQA+ inclusion in our community and workplace.

Trans Day of Visibility is an annual international celebration of trans pride and awareness, recognising trans and gender diverse experiences and achievements.

International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination

17 May

International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination (IDAHOBIT) is a day to celebrate advances in LGBTIQA+ equality while also raising awareness of the discrimination LGBTIQA+ communities continue to face.

IDAHOBIT is the anniversary of 17 May 1990, when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases.

Pride Month

June

Pride Month is a month-long celebration and acknowledgement of the achievements and progress made by LGBTIQA+ communities and the work still to be done.

It is a time to for LGBTIQA+ communities to show pride in who they are and for allies to celebrate with them.

Wear It Purple Day

Wear It Purple Day is an Australia-wide awareness day focused on celebrating, empowering and supporting LGBTIQA+ young people.

Bi Visibility Day

Bi Visibility Day has been marked each year since 1999.

The day raises bisexual awareness, increases the visibility of the bisexual community and challenges bisexual and biromantic erasure.
