A better way to dispose of paint and household chemicals

As hard waste collections continue for eligible properties in Monash, many households are clearing out unwanted items from the garage, shed or storage cupboard.
Before you place things on the nature strip, remember that some items need special handling, and can't be collected through annual hard waste.
Paints and household chemicals can be hazardous if handled incorrectly and require safe handling and disposal.
Leftover paint
Instead of putting paint out for hard waste, take it to the Monash Recycling and Waste Centre (380 Ferntree Gully Rd, Notting Hill) through the Paintback program.
Paintback accepts unwanted paint and packaging, helping keep these materials out of landfill and ensuring they're managed responsibly.

Household chemicals
The Victorian Government's Detox Your Home program provides a safe way to get rid of unwanted household chemicals that can't go in your bins or hard waste collection.
Common items accepted include:
- Cleaning chemicals (bleach, oven cleaner, acids and alkalis, aerosols)
- Garden chemicals and pesticides (herbicides, weed killers, insect sprays)
- Pool chemicals
- Solvents and thinners
- Other household hazardous chemicals.
