The Department of Transport is introducing changes to clearways to keep traffic flowing smoothly on Melbourne’s busy roads as part of the Clearways Management Program.
Clearways and tow-away zones help keep traffic flowing and reduce congestion by making sure there are no parked cars blocking roads during peak times.
From 1 December 2020, every existing clearway within 20 kilometres of Melbourne’s CBD will become a tow-away zone.
In Monash there are 18 clearways. No new clearways are being created in Monash as part of this program.
Clearways in Monash that will become tow-away zones are:
Keeping clearways clear on arterial roads reduces congestion and improves traffic flow.
The Department of Transport is progressively installing new tow-away signs to be ready for this change.
Drivers who park illegally in the signed tow-away zones during restricted times will have their vehicle towed and receive a fine on top of the vehicle release fee.
